Newspaper Report Writing

समाचार पत्र रिपोर्ट, कथा र लेखलाई समान रुपमा प्रयोग गरेको पाइन्छ । यस एकाइमा तीन प्रकारका समाचार पत्र लेखको बारेमा छलफल गरिन्छ ।

Newspaper Report/Article/Story of an AccidentNote 1: Possible structure.

I.                   Simple past :

·        Active:…..V2 + (obj)

Eg, the bus fell forty feet below the road.

·        Passive :……..was/were + v3

Eg, ten of the passengers were killed in the accident.

II.                Past continuous :

·        Active : ……….was/were + V4

Eg, While he was driving the bus, he was not thinking about the road.

·        Passive : …..was/were + being + V3

Eg, Two of the passengers died while they were being taken to hospital.

III.             Past Perfect :

·        Active: ……had + V3

Eg, the villagers had already left the village.

·        Passive :……had been + V3

Eg, the villagers had already been informed the possible dangers of the flood.

IV.            Any other possible structures as needed.

Note 2 : At least include following points:

a.     Type of the accident (bus, car, flood, etc)

b.     Causes of the accident/disster.

c.      Results of the accident.

·        Property loss

·        Human casualties

d.     Rescue operation

e.      Others

Note 3 : Hints for writing a newspaper report

a.     Specify and keep the 'title'.

b.     Write the place from where it is being reported.

c.      Write the date when it is being reported.

d.     Use passive voice and indirect speech.

·        Eg, ten of the local people are reported to have been killed in the disaster.

·        Few people were interviewed.

Report of the vehicle AccidentNote : At least include the following points in the body of the article

a.Name and number of the vehicle.

b.Departire place and destination.

c.Number of the passangers travelling.

d.Spot of the accident.

e.Date and time of the accident.

f.Obvious causes of the accident.

Eg, landslide, two vehicles collided, etc.

g.Scene of the accident.

h.People killed, injured & unharmed.

i.Rescue operation.

j.Others.

k.Don't mention any source if you are the witness.

Example I: A Bus Accident

22 KILLED IN A BUS ACCIDENT

Kathmandu, Feb 10

                               A bus numbered BA.2 KHA 333 belonging to super tiger travels going to pokhara from the capital city collided with a truck near Naubise yesterday at about 7 P.M. The truck numbered BA 1 KA 425 was carrying some he-buffaloes from nepalgunj to Kathmandu. Forty-five passengers are reported to have been travelling by bus.

                             As the vehicles collided each other, the bus was over turned and fell about 75 feet below the road and crashed onto the bank of a stream. On the other hand, the truck is reported to have been crashed at the side of the road.extremely miserably and unfortunately, 20 of the bus passengers were killed on the spot, said the traffic police. Two of the badly injured ones died on the way to hospital. Fifteen injured passengers are stated to be undergoing treatment in different hospitals. Fortunately, seven passengers are found to have been unharmed miraculously.

                           According to the unharmed passengers, dangerous speed of the bus was the main cuse of the accident. All the injured passengers are reported to have been rescued in time. Due to the casualties, the scene of the accident was horribly miserable. There was a pool of blood, said one of the local witnesses. The bus was completely destroyed.
